LIFE SYNC

LIFE SYNC

An addition to your existing modern technology, giving you easy access to the most essential communication functions.

Just a glance at your wrist and you are up to date, weather driving or in a meeting.

LifeSync was done in 2008 as part of the application for the Interaction Design Master at Malmö University.

THE CONCEPT

The task was to design a digital interaction concept for “Ronny”, a busy family dad who wanted to stay in contact with his family during a working day, without being distracted if in a meeting.

LifeSync is a flexible yet robust watch with a surface made of a bendable touch screen.

The watch utilizes Ronny’s existing technology, using the messaging capabilities of the phone, the computer’s calendar etc. GPS is included, as it is used for a tracking feature.

SCENARIO 1

Imagine Ronny sitting in a meeting with an important person. Glancing at his wrist, Ronny sees the time, and LifeSync correctly shows current calendar events discreetly below the main screen.

The watch is locked to avoid random inputs, but by double tapping on its surface, it will unlock.

Ronny can choose different themes to suit the occasion, from simple black to classic steel casing. Suddenly Ronny feels a soft vibration from the watch, and sees he has got a new text message from his son Jacob.

The green color lets him know that it is a person from the “private sphere” who is contacting him. Had it been business, it would be blue. The watch unlocks automatically, and all he needs to do is apologize to the client and tap the green button.

Ronny can just tap “Accept” to confirm his son’s request and get on with the meeting, but he writes a quick reply by combining frequently used phrases. He simply scrolls and taps with his finger to build a sentence. When scrolling, it appears as if the list revolves infinitely around his wrist.

If he makes mistakes, the pieces can be deleted by selecting them in the message area. The “Send” button becomes available when there is something to send. Also note the green reply symbol appearing.

SCENARIO 1

Imagine Ronny on his way home. While waiting for the train, he might as well call his son as he often does. Jacob doesn’t answer, but Ronny would like to know where he is, so he finds him in his contacts list on LIfeSync.

Because he views his private contacts, the “Contacts” header is on a green background. If he taps the blue part of the header, he will switch to the “business sphere”.

He taps Jacob’s name and navigates to the map feature, showing his son’s location. He is at a place where he often hangs out with his friends Erik and Lena, so Ronny guesses that Jacob is fine, and just didn’t hear the call.

Ronny also feels pretty sure that Jacob still wears the watch, as it shows if it has been taken off and locked, for instance in the case of theft. While he enters the train, he leaves a quick message for Jacob to view later.
